On November 23, 24 and 25, 2019, an ecology training "How to Become an Ecologist" was held for the target group students in Uzunkopru. The training is part of the activities under project "The Guardians of Thrace" CB005.2.12.024. A total of 15 students between the ages of 10 and 15 took part in it. The training was conducted by qualified trainers and covered the following aspects of the environment: Atmosphere - air quality, sources of atmospheric pollution and the effects of pollution, combating pollution; Water - use of water and needs, problems with water pollution, environmental perspectives, water treatment and treatment of hazardous waste; Solid Waste Management and Soil Pollution - Waste management and treatment, soil characteristics and soil pollution protection measures. One of the key issues that was addressed was the problem of waste treatment. At the very beginning of the project, each student received an explicitly purchased tablet through which participants will be able to interact with the website through photos and videos throughout the project. The training lasted a total of 3 days - 2 days of theory and 1 day of outdoor exercises, which took place near Lake Yordekli. On the day of practice, students learned how to work with lab kits. They collected samples to measure soil, water and air quality in their region. They experimented with the lab kits and reported the results. The students are part of the Eco Club formed under the project at the school.
As a result of the training, an eco calendar was developed that included all important dates related to nature and environmental protection. Each participant received a certificate - Young Ecologist of Thrace, for their participation in the training.
